UK Alexander von Humboldt Association

Friday 21st September has been chosen for the 2018 Annual Meeting of the UK Alexander von Humboldt Association. The event this year will take place at the University of Manchester, Sackville Street, Manchester M1 3BB, in the Council Chamber (Sackville Street Building B004). Lunch will be provided and there will be a wine reception after the talks.

The programme is currently being arranged and we would be pleased to hear from any Humboldtians, particularly those who have recently returned from Germany, who would like to give a talk about their work. If you would like to offer an oral presentation, please send a short abstract (half a page) at your earliest convenience to the programme coordinators, Dr Joan Leopold and Professor Rainer Cramer, at Presentations should last 20 minutes and be suitable for a lay audience. A contribution towards travel costs will be available on request for those giving a talk.

Registration for the meeting is through this link. Please note that you will see a confirmation message if your registration is successful.

There is a £20 contribution to cover costs associated with the meeting. On registration, details for making an electronic bank transfer will be provided in the automated confirmation message. Alternatively, please send cheques payable to 'UK Alexander von Humboldt Association' to the Treasurer, Dr James Wilton-Ely (, at the following address:

Department of Chemistry, Imperial College London, London SW7 2AZ.

Once your cheque or transfer has been received, you will be sent an acknowledgment e-mail and your name will be added to the list of confirmed attendees. The Executive Committee has some funds to contribute towards the costs of those travelling to the meeting from afar, or who may otherwise need financial assistance to attend. If you wish to be considered for this, you should register normally and contact the Treasurer with an estimate of your costs and the reason for claiming support (e.g. young researcher). Support will be arranged via cheque or bank transfer at the event itself.

Please pass this information onto other Humboldtians as their contact details may have changed since the mailing list was compiled.

Kind regards,

Dr Joan Leopold
